The Health, Safety & Wellbeing Application for Homeworkers

MyHaswell is a simple online application that enables employers to monitor and support the health, safety and wellbeing of homeworkers.

Employer’s legal responsibilities for the health, safety and wellbeing of homeworkers: all employers have a legal obligation for the health, safety and wellbeing of their employees, regardless of whether they work from home or in the office, which covers both their physical and mental health. As a minimum, that means employers should complete a risk assessment for homeworkers to ensure they have a safe place to work and stay in touch with employees to support their mental health and wellbeing.

Implications for not complying with health, safety and wellbeing responsibilities: it makes sense for employers to look after the health, safety and wellbeing of homeworkers, but if they do not there are legal implications. Both criminal and civil law apply to workplace health, safety and wellbeing. If the worst happens, a regulator may take action under criminal law and the person affected may claim for compensation under civil law. But courts will be far more sympathetic to employers who have acknowledged and acted upon their health, safety and wellbeing obligations, than those who have adopted a more cavalier approach.

How MyHaswell can help employers meet their health, safety and wellbeing responsibilities: MyHaswell is an internet based application for monitoring and supporting the health, safety and wellbeing of homeworkers in line with employer’s legal obligations. The front-end user interface, which is accessible by smartphone, tablet, or laptop computer, is used to obtain data from homeworkers about their health, safety and wellbeing. The back-end functionality stores this data and is used by authorised managers to review, analyse and action accordingly. MyHaswell manages and controls the entire process so that that caring for the health, safety and wellbeing of homeworkers is simple and cost-effective for employers to achieve.

Main components of the MyHaswell application: the application has three components. A home environment risk assessment which allows employees to examine and record their homeworking environment for their employer to review, mitigate any risks, and discharge their legal responsibilities. A homeworker wellbeing survey which assesses employees’ general wellbeing so that their employer can monitor and support any wellbeing concerns that arise. Employee pulse surveys which enable employers to distribute and analyse small surveys on people related issues to employees as frequently as once per week. All three components are highly configurable to meet the specific needs of individual organisations.
